As I am not into the medications field, I will be dealing only with both What Action You Can Take as well as some pointers on Food and Drink.
You should avoid whatever may be responsible for making GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease) any worse.
|Forward bending over or lying flat may cause GERD symptoms to worsen;
|Using a stack of pillows is not the answer, as it will cause a bend at the waist;
|Exercise, but not close to bedtime as it may make the symptoms worse;
|Belts or clothes should be loose fitting, especially around the waist area;
|Place blocks or bricks under the legs or frame at the "head" side of your bed to raise that end by 15 – 20 cms. – recommended as a last resort.
Must I consume Food and Drink in a Specific Way?
|Don't overeat at any one meal.
|Chew your food well TO THE EXTREME with small mouthfuls. A large mouthful CANNOT be chewed well;
|Make sure that you are drinking at least 8 glasses of pure Water per day. More depending on climatic and activity conditions;
|Do not eat or drink within 3 hours of retiring for the night;
|Being overweight makes the symptoms worse. If you need to lose weight, please advice;
|Do not eat meals that are high in especially the wrong fats and low in fiber;
|Avoid foods and drinks that cause heartburn and indigestion. You may be affected by some of the following:
|hot spicy food;
|orange or grapefruit juice;
|peppermint and spearmint;
|caffeinated or decaffeinated coffee, soda, chocolate.
Our website has numerous articles on the Water & Chewing aspects which are two of the most underrated essentials for the Human Body.
We have discussed these subjects before. Unfortunately one does not take them seriously enough.
The valve between the stomach and the esophagus (the tube that connects the stomach to your mouth) becomes weak and allows stomach acid to flow upward. This can cause irritation to the lining of the esophagus. Sometimes the damage to the lining is called erosive esophagitis or esophagitis. Complications include esophagitis, strictures and Barrett’s esophagus.
Refer to our website for more information on the important Needs of the Human Body which are amongst the very first essentials for good health.
